SANDRIDGE SCHOOL - Lynwood, IL
Sandridge School, located in
Lynwood, Illinois, is currently
undergoing Phase II of their
master plan. In 1997, JMA
designed a 13, 159 square foot
addition to this elementary
school. Following this addition,
the District needed to have a
referendum passed to proceed
with Phase II of their plan.
JMA conducted a needs
assessment, assisted the
District in
formulating a presentation for
the community, and attended
the public question and answer
sessions in which the
community became informed about
the needs of the district.
As a result, the referendum was
passed and JMA designed
Phase II of the District’s
master plan. The 35,000 square
foot
addition is currently in its
construction phase.
Phase II of Sandridge School’s
additions is 35, 000 square feet
and approximately $4.5M to
construct. A new gymnasium, a
new lobby entrance, fourteen new
classrooms, student washrooms,
and storage space are among the
features added. The new
gymnasium has its own secure
entrance and lobby so that it
can be utilized for community
activities without ever
accessing the school portion of
the building. Additional
classrooms and a music room
accommodate the expanding
enrollment and alleviate
overcrowding within the existing
classrooms. JMA was selected to
not only design the project, but
to also
serve as construction manager.
This project was completed
on-time and on-budget.
Phase I of Sandridge School’s
addition included a new entrance
foyer, five new general
classrooms, a computer room, a
learning resource center,
District offices, a Speech,
Psychologist, & Social Worker’s
office, and Student washrooms.
This addition was 13,159 square
feet and cost $909K to
construct. The new east entrance
provides a new centralized
access to the facility. Student
drop-offs and pick- ups are
better controlled for a safer
environment. The main office is
located at a node between the
elementary and junior high
classroom wings. Student
movement can be monitored easily
by the main office staff.
